The Sta. Chiara D’Assisi Gallery presents “Beyond the Subject,” works by Fr. Michael Reyes, OFM. This show encompasses the artist’s journey as his artistic language grows and evolves, anchored to his constant search for beauty and truth.
Step into a world of artistry where paintings of varying scales adorn the gallery, each boasting highly textured surfaces. Experience the masterful combination of oil paint, paper, marble dust, and metal leaves by Fr. Michael Reyes, OFM. His bold brush strokes bring the canvas to life, allowing colors to dance and play, while the textured edges create captivating reflections, adding a unique sense of dimensionality to his work.
Fr. Michael is a Franciscan Friar from the newly formed US Franciscan Province – Franciscan Friars, Our Lady of Guadalupe Province. Our Lady of Guadalupe Province is a branch of the worldwide Catholic fraternity of the Order of Friars Minor. It was founded by St. Francis of Assisi in 1223. The friars believe in the good of all living things, “Pax et bonum; Peace and all good,” and work to meet people where they are with the spirit of love and humanity.
As a Franciscan artist, Fr. Michael Reyes, OFM, continually seeks to connect with the profound humanity within us all. He provides deep insights into the transformative power of art, expressing, “Paintings are equivalent to a person’s signature. The power of images transcends the limitations of language. My paintings are not mere visuals; they are challenges and inspirations, offering faith and life lessons without uttering a single word. With art, you can touch the hearts of everyone, regardless of their cultural and educational background or the language they speak.”
